Dr. Samir Makary

Dr. Samir Makary

Chairman

Dr. Makary has over 20 years of experience in financial analysis and economic policy issues. As a consultant with Hazem Hassan Management Consultants, the Desert Development Center of AUC, Arab International Consultants and PIEDA, he has provided consulting services to numerous governmental and non-governmental bodies, including the Tourism Development Authority and the Ministry of Tourism. He is also a long-time distinguished professor of Economics at the American University in Cairo, where he has conducted over 350 research studies of almost all sectors of the Egyptian economy. Dr. Makary holds a Bachelors and Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Alexandria. He holds a second Master of Science in Economic Development from the University of Strathclyde and a PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester. Dr. Makary is a member of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee and chairs the Executive Committee.

Dr. Hamza Al Kholi

Dr. Al Kholi is Chairman and CEO of First Arabian Development & Investment Company in Egypt. He is also owner and CEO of the Al Kholi Group of Companies in Saudi Arabia, founding and leading four Class A companies to prominence: Saudi Building Technic Maintenance, Arabian Maintenance Operations Services, United Projects Maintenance & Operations, and the Hamza Al Kholi Trading Establishment. These companies hold subsidiaries in the Middle East, Europe and the United States in numerous industries, including hotels and resorts, real estate development, construction and telecommunications. Dr. Al Kholi holds a Bachelors degree in Pharmacy from King Saud University.

Eng. Abdel Monem Attia is the chairman of KATO Real Estate Development Co., a resort, residential and commercial real estate developer that set the path in the early 1990s with the first truly modern residential tower on the banks of the Nile. Previously, he was the Chairman of Saudi Egyptian Belgium Construction and the General Manager of Saudi Egyptian Construction. With more than 50 years experience in real estate and tourism investment, Eng. Attia sits on the board of several companies including First Arabian Real Estate and Tourism Investment, Ghazala Hotels and the International Airports Company. Eng. Attia holds a Bachelors degree in Architecture from Cairo University. Eng. Attia is a member of the Executive Committee.

Mr. Mohamed Kamel

Mr. Mohamed Kamel

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Kamel assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer having previously served on the ERC Board, Audit and Investment Committees. Prior to joining ERC, he spent eight years with KATO Investment, one of Egypt’s largest and most diversified industrial and services conglomerates with over twenty subsidiaries in eight divisions operating in manufacturing, aerospace, tourism, real estate, construction, logistics, banking, and trading. Mr. Kamel assumed several roles in different divisions of KATO, including sales and marketing, operations manager, project manager and, finally, business development manager at KATO Investment’s headquarters. While at KATO, he was instrumental in creating the first modern privately-held, bonded warehouse at Cairo International Airport, and managed the debt-raising process from European banks for the aerospace division. Mr. Kamel also worked as a consultant with Bain & Company in their London offices following his MBA. Mr. Kamel holds a Bachelors degree in Economics with high honors from the American University in Cairo and an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School. Mr. Kamel is a member of the Executive and Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

Dr. Gamal Elsaeed

Dr. Gamal Elsaeed

Dr. Elsaeed is an Associate Professor of Civil and Public Works Engineering at Banha University in Cairo. In the private sector, Dr. Elsaeed manages an engineering firm involved in major infrastructure projects in many MENA countries. He is active in several professional societies, including the Egyptian Society of Engineers (Past International Director) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (former Board member). Dr. Elsaeed is also Chair of the Public Works Committee of the elected Local Council for Cairo. He also serves on the board of several charitable societies in Cairo and is on the Board of Trustees of Mansheit Elbakry Public Hospital. Dr. Elsaeed holds a Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and Business Administration Studies from Ain Shams University, Texas A&M and Harvard University, respectively. Dr. Elsaeed is a member of the Executive Committee.

Dr. Eskander Tooma

Dr. Tooma is a recognized financial expert. He is currently a co-owner and board member of Premium International for Credit Services as well as a board member of Orascom Housing Communities, Orascom Investment Fund, Rowad Tourism Company and Regina Food Industries. He was senior advisor to the Capital Market Authority for over two years and has served on a number of committees, including the EGX30 Index Committee and the Market Advancement Committee at the Egyptian Stock Exchange. Privately, he has advised leading institutions including Citadel Capital, Beltone Financial, AAIB, Osoul Fund Management, and Orascom Development Holding. Dr. Tooma is a distinguished tenured professor of finance and management at the American University in Cairo. He is a member of the American Economic Association (AEA) and the American Finance Association (AFA) and is the Secretary General of the African Finance Association. Dr. Tooma holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo and Adelphi University. Dr. Tooma holds two Masters degrees, the first in Finance and the second in International Economics from Adelphi and Brandeis University respectively. He also holds a PhD in Finance from Brandeis University. Dr. Tooma chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee as well as the Remuneration and Nomination Committee.

Mr. Ahmed Abu Hendia

Mr. Abu Hendia is a board member and the legal counsel of First Arabian Development and Investment. He currently sits on the board of a number of companies including Information and Technology Services Co. and Delta Hotels and Tourism, in addition to ERC. Mr. Abu Hendia brings more than 20 years experience in law, real estate and tourism investment to the ERC Board. Mr. Abu Hendia holds a Bachelors degree in Law from Ain Shams University. Mr. Abu Hendia chairs the Remuneration and Nomination Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Mr. Hisham Ramadan

Mr. Hisham Ramadan

Member, representing Misr Insurance

Mr. Ramadan is a recognized expert in the Egyptian Insurance Industry (EII). He is currently the vice chairman of Misr Life Insurance Co. and a board member of HD Bank, in addition to ERC. Mr. Ramadan worked as a supervisor for Egyptian Insurance Supervisory Authority (EISA) for more than 10 years, most recently participating in the amendments to Egyptian Insurance Law No. 10. He holds a Bachelors degree in Math, Statistics and Operational Researches from Zagazig University and a Masters degree in Actuarial Science from City University in London. Mr. Ramadan is a member of the Audit Committee.

Mr. Atef Tawfik

Mr. Tawfik is currently the Corporate Vice President of Food Manufacturing for KATO Investment and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of National Food Company, a KATO Investment subsidiary. Mr. Tawfik is also a distinguished entrepreneur, having started one of Egypt’s leading integrated IT solutions providers, CommTech, as well as a rising star in print and copy management, Q Services International. Mr. Tawfik holds an MBA degree from Maastricht University and a Bachelors degree in Banking Management from Sadat Academy for Management Science. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Program at Harvard Business School. Mr. Tawfik is a member of the Audit Committee.

Mr. El Hatow currently serves as Executive Director at Al Ahly Capital. He has many years of experience in the Egyptian investment banking and private equity sectors and has been involved in most of the landmark M & A transactions that have taken place in Egypt over the past decade. In addition to ERC, Mr. El Hatow currently serves on the board of a number of companies, namely Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC), Al Ahly Medical Services Company and Al Ahly Asset Management Company. Mr. El Hatow holds a Bachelors degree in Political Science from the American University in Cairo and a Masters of Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University. Mr. El Hatow is a member of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee.

Mr. Hussein is currently the Head of Investment at Misr Insurance Co. and a Board Member at ARCOSTEEL, as well as being the newest addition to the ERC Board. Mr. Hussein has worked at Misr Insurance Co. for more than ten years, bringing great depth of experience in the field of investment to the Board. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Cairo University, as well as a Diploma in Accounting from Cairo University. Mr. Hussein is a member of the Audit Committee.
